We went to Giant City Lodge for lunch/dinner on two different occasions. The lodge itself is beautiful. There is a bison bull and calf (taxidermied) as you walk in. They were donated by Bison Bluff Farms, which is a huge bison farm in the area. The food at Giant City Lodge was wonderful, and our waitress both times was courteous... More

We love to come to Giant City and hike the trails with the family. It is so well taken care of and just beautiful experience to get outside with the family and our dog.

Beautiful area. In all seasons this place is fantastic. One of the best parks in Illinois. Watch out for snakes in warmer weather.

Great Trails and a lodge that offers rib sticking food that is well deserved after a long hike. Order fried chicken and treat yourself.

A beautiful State Park in the northern end of the Shawnee National Forest area where sandstone cliffs abound. A wonderful place to hike and picnic. Make sure you eat at the Lodge.

I'd read about this park online and had to see it for myself. It was a warm, humid Oct. day when I took the loop mile trail thru "giant city" and it was well worth it. Is an uneven trail and had some pretty good ups and downs so it was a little difficult for a 65 year old guy.... More

We don't camp or fish or hike or rock climb or rappel or ride horses or play golf? So what are we doing in Giant City State Park? Located on 4,000 acres of the Shawnee National Forest near Makanda, Illinois, in Jackson and Union counties, it was established in 1927 and has been expanded to include a 4,725-square-foot visitors center,... A wonderful afternoon of hiking and enjoying the beauty. One trail was more challenging but the views were incredible and worth the many steps. It was busy the day we went, but usually a quiet get away.

We were staying in nearby Woodland Cabins and took a drive to the park. There is a water tower that you can climb using a spiral staircase. At the platform we could see "forever" and the view was delightful. There are also several hiking trails of various lengths and difficulty.
