We put in up the Kite river and pulled out at castle rock. This is a cool little park. Not a place I'd take dogs. Something about lime disease sampling in that area. Great place to bird watch though.

No dramatic cliffs, canyons, or waterfalls here. Just sublime beauty and wonderful trails. I have been hiking here for 20 years. This year is the most dense growth I have ever seen. Hiking yesterday, the birds echoes from the heavy growth made it sound like...More

Spent some family time here over our Fourth of July vacation. Took our nieces and nephews for a little outdoor time. Grounds were well kept and the view from the deck on top was very nice. We didn't try the fishing out but looked like...More

Castle Rock State Park Overlook had a more of a learning lesson to me than just the attraction itself. It is smart to prepare for a foundation for the future step by step so when you reach the top of Castle State Park Overlook, your...More

If the kids are driving you crazy on your drive, stop here and let them run up and down the stairs a few times. This hard climb gets you to the top of a small outcrop of sandstone where you can look northward up the...More

Stairs provide a convenient access (about 10 minutes) all on stairs to the Scenic Overlook of the Rock River. There are about seven other trails on the other side of Highway 2 which follows the West side of the river.

The lookout is amazing and well worth the trek up the stairs. You can stop along the way and rest if needed but you won't be mad when you get to the top. Great views and photo opportunities! The entire area has great parks for...More

A beautiful location but a bit pricey. We stayed in one of the cabins - it was quiet and the bed was comfortable. We ate dinner and breakfast in the dining room, the food was ok. We took the Christmas light trolley ride, it was...More

I would recommend going camping at Lowden State Park, which is only a 1/4 mile away from town. It's a nice campground, with a concession, cabins, showers, and a walking distance to see the new Blackhawk Statue. You would... More

My logic would tell me you cannot because the undercurrent would be to fast and too dangerous. It does sound like it would be a fun activity you would have to petition for. I would recommend calling Castle Rock State Park... More
