I enjoyed both the little museum and the fishing village with its colourful boats and people. It can get very busy at the beach, but you will get a great glimpse into the everyday lives of Gambians and many Senegalese fishermen that come here.

The museum offers a nice introduction to Gambian life but, having just returned from a 4-day trip along the River Gambia with tour company "Tour Gambia" (100% recommended), we felt we knew a lot of what was told us and/or had already seen many of...More

We really enjoyed it here and spent longer than we expected. The artifacts etc are quite dated but they are well put together and that adds to the charm of the place, and there were traditional African huts, and a wooden tree hut to explore....More

There are two aspects to Tanji and most visitors will be there to see the boats arrive and unload and all the activity around the fish market area. The museum has some local history and a mocked up settlement from the 1800's. How accurate hard...More

By today's European standards this little museum is a museum piece in itself. The displays in the natural history and agriculture sections are poor by any standards, consisting of poorly framed and fading photographs and a few skins. The reconstructed settlement of the 19th century...More

This was one we were touch and go about visiting, but really glad we did. We took our guide from the hotel, which enhanced the visit. It's a bit rural, but it is the Gambia!

I really enjoyed this visit. We went around the smoke huts where the process was explained to us, we met the ladies who were gutting/descaling the fish and got to look at where they lived and worked in some detail. The smell was awful but...More
