We drove the Golden Circle route as a detour between Vatnajokull Nat Park and Snaefellsnes, because I wanted to see Gullfoss. Magnificent sight, certainly doesn't disappoint. But the rest of the route is very ordinary, landscape-wise.Yes, you have the whoosh of the quite small Strokkur geyser which amuses for 10 minutes, good fun, then you move on. The Pingvellir World Heritage... More

My top tip for visiting the Golden Circle would be to hire a car and not be beholden to tours, driving is easy. The Gullfoss Waterfalls are spectacular, like a mini Niagara Falls! I found the Geysers just incredible, the bubble before they erupt just has to be seen. The cafe opposite the Geysers is also well worth a visit... More

We hired a 4WD and drove this route ourselves, which I recommend. We did this in February with a full winter's snow everywhere and it was beautiful yet easy to drive. It's a full day of driving and stopping to see things but totally worth it. From the incredible views at Thingvellir National Park and snorkelling in dry suits (in... More

A nice drive that will take the better part of a day especially during the shorter days of winter. The area is beautiful with some nice stops along the way. During our visit the day was overcast and rainy, but we still enjoyed the drive.

Would have given it excellent but froze to death in mid may! Went to gullfoss...wind was 65mph...from the brief look it was incredible. See it from top and bottom. Geysers not much after living outside Yellowstone for 2 years. The pingvellir was nice views. A lot of walking. The Kerid crater was great...costs extra to see it. Like I said...I'm... More

The Golden Circle route is oh so famous that everyone going to Iceland wants to do it. What's special is that you get to visit a few landmarks along the way and that's about it. And it's by no suprise a good way for tour operators to snatch your money too as tours are pretty expensive! Here's how to avoid... More

The Golden Circle tour seems to be the one that everyone does in Iceland, and I see why. The route takes you around some amazing sights on the island which are all very unique. During our visit it rained most of the day, but most of it was while we were in the coach so it didn't spoil the experience... More

This area is super beautiful... its like the milky way mixed with greenery. The drive is smooth and there are many sites to see like Gullfloss. The Geyser scattered houses under hills of snow.. horses galloping and i think there is a building where ages ago the head of government met for meetings Plus there are stops for rest rooms... More
