Loved the hiking and exploring. We did one trail each day we were here and were able to adjust what we did based on the person. Some trails were easier than others and we took advantage of all of them. Friendly people on the trails....More

My family love to visit this park. It is a beautiful well maintained park. The trails and grounds are nice. This is also a great place for a family reunion and/or a picnic.

So much better than we expected. Great place to go off trail into the river beds and much less trash than the Starved Rock State Park. Enjoy! Give yourself a half day to really explore the whole park.

This was one of the best hiking trips that we ever did. The views were picturesque and the walk was fun. The kids loved climbing the dells and we enjoyed the fresh air. The fall colors were vibrant. I have never seen so many happy...More

We did a trip to Starved Rock and stopped here on the way. We really enjoyed the short trails and pretty much had the place to ourselves. It was definitely worth the stop.

Wow! This place is beautiful! I don’t know if there’s any time of year better than far to walk in the Dells of this park. Trails are tricky but not difficult and a wonderful time. If it has rained to take your rain boots are...More

We hiked the main trail on a rainy day. It is well maintained and beautiful. The leaves were beginning to change color, it cool and not crowded. I enjoyed the quite and scenery took a ton of pictures of the area.

I stop here regularly with my dog. The trails are well maintained and easily navigated. Ample parking and the restrooms are clean. Plenty of areas to picnic as well as a nice area to park horse trailers. Beautiful spot to visit during all seasons

We usually go to Starved Rock, but decided to check out Matthiessen. It was a picture perfect day, which meant crowds. We were there by 10:30 and got one of the last parking spots. There is overflow parking, but it was a bit of a...More

Another beautiful state park in the Utica area of Illinois. Not as large as Starved Rock but the "Lower Dells" were beautiful. Lots of stairs!

That is the old deer park fishing club. It is owned by the state. I haven't been there in awhile but not sure how wheelchair friendly that would be. Pretty sure you can park there because people fish there.

No sure, but I don't believe there is any lighting in the area and with a lot of uneven ground, I would not want to be there after dark.
