We had set this weekend up back in June. When we stopped in for brunch and a hike. December is perfect...less crowded and all decked out for Christmas to boot. The trails were fabulous without all the vegetation blocking views to the water. We saw bald eagles and the waterfalls were flowing unlike in June. The lounge entertainment was Good... More

Only had time to stop by for a quick visit. The place had much to offer. The lodge and visitors center are a must see. Did not get a chance to hike, but heard great reviews.

Fairly easy hiking trails. Great beauty in the many canyons and waterfalls. I understand it can be quite busy on weekends. My wife and I went the day after Thanksgiving. It was a perfect day for hiking and was not crowded. Also recommend checking out the lodge as it was quite beautiful. Note: This is not very handicap accessible. You... More

We decided to drive a little extra out of the way when traveling from St. Louis to Chicago to visit and I am glad we did. It was a great spot to stretch the legs and see some natural beauty. We went on a cold day with only an hour to spare before the trails closed at sunset. We walked... More

Took a teenager and a four year old for the day. Perfect for a picnic! The boys tried fishing but no luck. It was perfect to relax and let the throw a line in while I read a book. The trails are easy but you can take longer more challenging hikes if you wish. Saw Senior Citizens to dogs all... More

This was our 2nd visit to the park & 1st time staying at the lodge. This was a special occasion & 2 friends had welcoming gifts sent to our room. We were very impressed with the customer service throughout the resort, but special kudos to Kim at the front desk! I also had the opportunity to discuss in detail the... More

Brought a group of friends and their kids to hike Starved Rock State Park on a beautiful Fall day in November. Illinois is not well known for landscape, so it was surprising to see waterfalls and forest and rock formations. It was very crowded. Most of the paths are actual concrete sidewalks or wooden boardwalks, so people of all ability... More

spent a Sunday afternoon at the park on a unusually warm November day. Park was exttremely crowded and we had to park in an overflow lot. Considering how may people were there that day it never really seemed that bad. The trails were busy but manageable. Sometimes the stairways would have a lot of traffic flow but it was nice... More

Beautiful park with miles and miles of hiking paths. Wonderful canyons and waterfalls. One of the best parks in Illinois for viewing the fall colors, watching the eagles and getting out in nature.
