My fiancé and I traveled here from the burbs to have a couple days to ourself. It was nice because it's an off season no one was there. It was nice and quiet and lots of hiking to ourselves. Definitely worth a trip planning on returning in the summer.

We visited the first weekend of 2017 to see the bald eagles come to nest. What an amazing sight! Though freezing, the experience will take your breath away. Walk around the beautiful grounds, go hiking, stop at the Lodge for a drink or a bite to eat. I almost picked this venue for my wedding because of its simple beauty... More

This is a great location for families with smaller children, or those not used to hiking. More outdoorsy folk may find it a bit over-commercial, but the views are truly wonderful.

Not to be "poo-poo'd" just because it's in Illinois. As an adventure junkie and love of beautiful landscapes, I wasn't prepared to be impressed by this little hidden gem in southern Illinois. We only had a few hours to kill before meeting family at the lodge for dinner, so we did the hike to LaSalle and Tonti Canyons. Starting from... More

We had set this weekend up back in June. When we stopped in for brunch and a hike. December is perfect...less crowded and all decked out for Christmas to boot. The trails were fabulous without all the vegetation blocking views to the water. We saw bald eagles and the waterfalls were flowing unlike in June. The lounge entertainment was Good... More

Only had time to stop by for a quick visit. The place had much to offer. The lodge and visitors center are a must see. Did not get a chance to hike, but heard great reviews.

Fairly easy hiking trails. Great beauty in the many canyons and waterfalls. I understand it can be quite busy on weekends. My wife and I went the day after Thanksgiving. It was a perfect day for hiking and was not crowded. Also recommend checking out the lodge as it was quite beautiful. Note: This is not very handicap accessible. You... More

We decided to drive a little extra out of the way when traveling from St. Louis to Chicago to visit and I am glad we did. It was a great spot to stretch the legs and see some natural beauty. We went on a cold day with only an hour to spare before the trails closed at sunset. We walked... More
