A romantic house and gallery set in beautiful riverside gardens. Ancient trees, bubbling brooks and rolling lawns frame this lovely old house. Crafted from a medieval priory, it is full of surprises, with art that intrigues and delights. Come back throughout the year to see different exhibitions in the gallery. Carpets of spring bulbs, a stunning walled rose garden, rich autumn leaves and a colourful winter garden make Mottisfont a feast for the senses all year round. There's space to run, jump and play, and always something for families to do.

What a beautiful property, both the grounds and the house are simply stunning. The Rex Whistler Salon room is divine and the house is so evocative of its 1930s revamp. We were lucky enough to see the Rex Whistler exhibition which is on until April 23rd and well worth a visit! A big thank you to the volunteer guides at... More

The grounds of Mottisfont are absolutely stunning. We arrived just as the snowdrops were coming to bloom. The house itself only had a few rooms open which were very nice, but a bit lacking in comparison to other National Trust properties.

Friendly welcoming staff. Fascinating history dating back to the 12th century. The house has hosted Winston Churchill, Ian Fleming, Bloombsury set for weekends. Well worth visiting and it would be great to see the flowers in the spring.

My husband and I drive up to see Mottisfont on a chilly but sunny February afternoon. Everything was very well organised and although it was extremely busy it really didn't feel that way. The guides are knowledgeable and very friendly and passionate about the history of the house. The exhibition was very interesting and informative, the house gave you a... More

We had a fantastic few hours walking around the grounds and house, I'm sure that when the summer comes the whole place will come alive. The artwork in the house is amazing especially in the main room of the house. The staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. If you want to wend away some time and disappear in history then I... My husband and I visited Mottisfont to see the Whistler exhibition. The grounds are simply stunning, the River Test meanders through a superb landscape which supports various flora and fauna - we spent a good hour taking it all in before going into the house. The staff were friendly and good humoured, in fact having visited numerous NT properties I... More

We frequently visit Mottisfont as it is our hearest National Trust property. We never fail to enjoy our visit as there is always something interesting to see, and the property has developed considerably in the last few years. We love the rose garden in June, the winter garden in February, the Christmas house decorations in December, and the river walks... More

We came to Mottisfont Abbey originally for the Lauren Child exhibition which we thoroughly enjoyed. However, we were so pleasantly surprised by the whole Abbey and grounds we were not at all bothered about driving to Mottisfont again for the Beatrice Potter exhibition which was again amazing and beautifully displayed. The Abbey is beautiful and the grounds are an absolute... More
