The Genesee Theatre re-opened its doors on December 3, 2004 to two sold out performances of Bill Cosby, and will continue to provide the highest quality of performances including comedians, Broadway productions and national and regional musical acts. The Genesee Theatre is located in downtown Waukegan, originally a commercial port city and later an industrial center; it is now the seat of Lake County. Within short distance to Chicago and Milwaukee, and home to a culturally rich and diverse population, the city is poised for a dramatic comeback.

The Genesse is a wonderful, old theater. Seats are comfortable and the venue is nice for both performances and other events. It's generally much more economical to see a show here than downtown Chicago and parking is a breeze and usually free. It's also only two block from the Metra station in Waukegan. I have seen some nationally known shows... More

The Genesse Theater, while from the outside looks like a 1940s office building with a marquee, is a gem - both in its impressive and inviting interior design, which includes multiple inviting beverage areas, and the quality of the performances that take the intimate stage. Exceptionally easy parking and the presence of the Waukegan Police in the area are bonus... More

Thank you for your wonderful review! While we do everything possible to create a great experience inside, you point out one of the great aspects of many suburban theaters which is the convenience and ease of getting to and from the venue and the parking. We hope you can return for a future performance soon! More

Genesee theater may seem far away, but it is within walking distance from the Waukegan Metra station. If you want to take a trip from Chicago, it is a great place to see a concert without Chicago Theater District prices. No valets or high priced parking garages.. There is a large parking garage and last concert was 10.00 to park.... More

The theatre provides a nice environment for concerts and is overlooked by an older group of stewards. The rules are more strict to ensure a more relaxed environment considering the overall historic setting.

Excellent seats with no blocked views. Acoustics were good for the concert we saw. Ladies room is very nice. Bar service was very slow and not worth the wait.

Thank you for the review and feedback. Depending on the show, sometimes the bar access can become congested on the first floor. However, we often have lounges open on the second and third floors that are used much less. Don't hesitate to ask an usher which lounges are open that evening and usually they can point you to much faster... More

Really excellent place, so beautiful with tons of women's toilets! We liked it very much, even the Police outside were cheerful and friendly.

We attended the wonderful Peter Cetera concert at the completely restored Theatre on Saturday November 12th, 2016. The interior is stunning to behold and it is a testament to the community to have saved and restored this place. Waukegan is the home of a our Jack Benny and I understand he played in this very venue! The are 2300 plus... More

First time to this theater. We saw the B52s on a Friday night. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Beautiful theater and easy to get around. Not a bad seat in the house. Started getting their emails. Will go back to see more shows.

Been to the Genesee Theatre twice in three weeks to see Survivor, John Waite, Flock of Seagulls, and now Peter Cetera. This is a beautiful place to see a show. Plenty of parking in the downtown area. Every staff member we came across were very friendly. Honestly, there's not a bad seat in the house. First time, we sat about... More

This is a beautifully restored theatre with great sound and a huge stage. Sight lines are great. You can often find free places to park nearby, or else plenty of places close by to park for $10. So much easier and more pleasant to see a show here than schlepping into the city and dealing with the cost and the... More
