We chose to stay in a hotel right on the Canal (Residence Inn Downtown Indianapolis-Canal North). It's basically just a wide walkway kept pretty busy by walkers, joggers, gondolas, some bicycles, and occasionally a Segway tour. There are also little boats to rent if you'd like to actually get on the water. The great thing about this is there are... More

I highly recommend the canal when visiting, it's very relaxing and romantic no matter if you visit in the summer or winter. I love walking the canal at night the lights from the city reflecting off the water is beautiful.

A free activity. Walk along the canal. Get some city pictures. It is 1 mile long in total length. It is just a few block from the downtown center monument. Not a lot to see in this city in my opinion, but this is one place to visit.

The Canal is a wonderful place to spend any amount of time, when it is tolerable to be outside. The walk around the Canal is always a great time, and kids love it too because they get to be outside downtown, and there are ducks that can be fed...so bring some bread, but be careful - they tend to swarm... The canal is a great place to come to walk or bike in any season. I've come with family or friends in all seasons, though we spend more time walking in the warmer months. I most often come during the day, but a nighttime stroll has great ambience as well. One of my children took me out on a paddle... More

Visit the USS Indianapolis memorial, helped immensely if you read up on it before arriving. Enjoyable to stroll around. (Or bike!) At the northern end there are events and music sometimes. Just a nice outing overall, and completely unexpected and different if you only know the rest of the downtown area.

It's a beautiful place to be. It located a little west to the downtown but absolutely walkable distance. The canal boating is a great experience. We took a paddle boat for about $35 an hour and it was almost worth it. To and fro boating time should about the same - one hour, with some breaks in between. There are... More

A lot of things were closed due to the holiday, but we were able to stroll along the canal & take in the sights. Lots of cool art sculptures also.

The Indianapolis Downtown Central Canal allows for a great experience in the city. It's very popular at all times of the year filled with runners, couples, families and photographers. It has lots of character, including murals, views of the city, a 9/11 memorial and art sculptures. Apartments, condos, history museums and restaurants all line the canal. There are rentable bikes,...
