If you don't visit Stokes Bay beach you are doing Kangaroo Island the wrong way. The short walk to the beach has to be experienced to be believed and then the beach with its perfectly rolling waves and rock pool. Divine.

Great drive here and good CAFE ROCKPOOL. Good food .Wine expensive.. Beach is full of seabirds and DO NOT MISS drive to small carpark and walk to beach to right where you will see a sign on rocks to" beach." You will go through amazing caves /rock tuunnel to next southern beach. A real spinout. Just do it!

A stunning beach. One of the prettiest beaches I've seen. Could easily spend all day here. Beautiful rock pools, dolphins and white sand. Can't wait to return again when the weather is better.

When we arrived at Stokes Bay and saw the beach strewn with rocks and large pebbles we wondered what all the fuss was about? Then you see a small sign of in the distance to "BEACH". You wind your way between boulders and through small caves until you emerge onto one of the most amazing beach areas on the island. Lovely tidal rock pools to wade in as well as a very expansive beach area. WARNING there is a strong rip on this beach and it is not patrolled.

I’d researched the area before we headed over. The reviews seemed pretty good. Once we arrived at the carpark we looked out thinking is this it? But a short walk and climb through rocks took us to another section and oh wow! What a hidden gem this one is! We were the only ones there for quite a while. Spent a good couple of hours walking, wading and resting in this beautiful place. The hardest thing was leaving!
So we made an extra trip back the following afternoon after having been in the south of the island for the day - just to have one last visit here.

A lot of Kangaroo Island is good for sightseeing and photography - stokes bay beach is good for both - the entrance is slightly hidden and you need to go through the rocks to get to it. Be aware of the tide as it laps at the entrance when in

A beautifully sculpted beach with weather worn rocks. Quite spectacular walking and in good weather a great place to relax.

We were told to visit Stokes Beach on KI by friends. There is a little walk through rocks to get to the beach. The kids loved it! Nanna was not so thrilled, being loaded down with towels, bathers, drinks, shoes etc. Also nanna is not as young as she once was. However, I made it, and the beach on the other side was beautiful. Worth the walk (and the feeling of claustrophobia).

The walk carved through the rocks by local visionaries decades ago, set the scene for one of the prettiest beaches and rock pool we've ever visited.

Hi, is the beach easy accessible for older people with difficulty to walk?

I guess that depends on how much difficulty that person has.
Going slowly and with assistance yes. And it is worth it. The hidden track is lovely too, and not too long. But if the person is in a wheelchair or really struggles on flat ground, I would say it might need to be missed and to head to one of the other lovely and more easily accessible beaches.

When you drive to Stokes Bay's eastern end from North Coast Road, how and where do you find the penguin rookery? Are certain times of day (like low tide) better for visiting than others?
