If you like music and history, this is right up your alley. While difficult to find, it is in the middle of farm fields on a dirt/grass path...summer can be hot & humid. But take it into perspective. The efforts made to commemorate "the day...More

For rock and roll fans it is definitely worth going "off the beaten path" to view the crash site of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ricky Valens", the day the music died". It is easy to find with a GPSable address. The walk to...More

I was hesitant to visit this site. Some of the reviews really downed it. One person even complained about the lack of path or condition of the place. I could find no official website for the site. Those things did worry me.. until I realized...More

Well worth the walk, its not far and very peaceful. Its a nice gesture of the landowner to allow public use of his land for so many years and obviously appreciated by many. The access roads are easy and there is plenty of space to...More

Saw this shrine in July of 2001. Its location and simplicity are perfectly befitting its subjects. If you see "Clear Lake" on your GPS, go! Do this!

A very moving tribute to 3 gifted musicians & their pilot that were taken from us way too soon. It's very touching that the owner of the land maintains the memorial so many generations to come may pay their respects. Definitely worth the 1/2 mile...More

If you're in Clear Lake and a Buddy Holly fan, driving 6 miles to the crash site is a must. There are no signs to direct you so either ask directions or use GPS. After stopping on the gravel road, you will need to walk...More

You should also visit the Surf Ballroom - the site of their last show. It's close to the crash site.

The Clear Lake boat area has spots for parking and staying, by the way and it's not far from the downtown area. You might have checked that already but just in case--yes, there is a place if you want to stay. Maybe you might... More
