Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

Really inspiring modern sculpture park. Think a smaller Walker in Minnesota but free. One of the panels in the panaromic awarness pavilion was shattered and diminished the effect

For a short but lovely area, visit this sculpture park. We walked around the block, and then took in the areas with paths for closer looks. Thank you

If you're walking around in the area it's okay to walk through/bike past. I'm also not really into "art" that is abstract.

Nice place for a walk in the park. It would be nice if there were more benches or seats in the shaded areas, in the park, not just the perimeter by the car parking. Lots of nice art, and glad they had a map on...More

Not much to say except there are some cool sculptures and a pleasant walk around. Lots of restaurants and things to see nearby.

For some period of time, Des Moines had an unofficial tag line of, Des Moines...A Surprising Place, and for the most part I think that is very true. The Pappajohn Sculpture Park is one of the examples of what may surprise you about Iowa's Capital...More

Great photo opportunites with all the sculptures. Nice, clean park area in down Des Moines. Our teenage niece really enjoyed the prism. It is worth a stop. Relaxing.

This a unique sculpture park in the downtown area for families to visit and have a picnic. Most of the sculptures are hands off but there are a few that you can go into.

This is a nice stop in Des Moines. There is different types of art all with descriptions. Try it during the day and at night.

This park is a city block just outside of downtown. It's so interesting to get different perspectives on each sculpture. I particularly enjoyed the horse made of driftwood and the big guy made of letters.

Great question! Since the Pappajohn Sculpture Park is technically a city park, dogs are more than welcome.

Great question! The area is well-lit at night including street lights as well as individual spotlights on a number of the sculptures in the park.
