Description:

The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event...

The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event in the state of Iowa and one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country. Annually attracting more than a million people from all over the world, the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines is Iowa’s great celebration, a salute to the state’s best in agriculture, industry, entertainment and achievement. It is the true heartbeat of the Midwest, unequalled and unduplicated. The Iowa State Fair, the inspiration for the original novel “State Fair” by Iowan Phil Stong, three motion pictures and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway musical, is without a doubt the country’s most famous state fair. National media frequently rank the Fair as one of the top events in the country. In 2004, USA Weekend named the event the #2 choice for summer fun in America, topping New York City’s Times Square, Cedar Point Amusement Park Resort in Ohio and Disneyland in California. Midwest Living magazine named the Fair one of the “Top 30 Things Every Midwesterner Should Experience.” The Fair is also included in the New York Times best-selling travel book 1000 Places to See Before You Die and the subsequent travel book, 1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before you Die. We have attended the fair for most of our libes and each year the fair brings something old and something new. It certainly should rate a 5 stars, but the management is so money hungry they have taken the fun out for many families that can no longer afford to attend. Look for special deals on tickets and eat before... More

Nothing like the Iowa State Fair. Good food. Good people. Great times. But bring cash. And wear good shoes.

We visited my parents in Ankeny and attended the Iowa State Fair in August and had a wonderful time! I've been to the Texas State Fair and the Tulsa (Oklahoma) State Fair and they may be just as good in many ways, but the Iowa State Fair had an authentic agricultural feel throughout the fairgrounds. The Iowa State Fair in... More

The Iowa State Fair is held in August every year in the beautiful city of Des Moines over several days . There are a great deal of Sideshow attractions for the young and old and an incredible number of food stands with a vast collection of diversified selections of different snacks to choose from . There is a chair lift... More

I am gluten free and since this was my first time going to the Iowa State Fair, I was very concerned. However, it all worked out for me. Although there are not a lot of choices there, there were enough. Unless you like grilled sweet corn and turkey legs, I suggest you eat before you go. I've been here since... More

The Iowa state fair is the one that the book and movie is based on. Forget the remake that featured "a different" state's fair, lol. Okay, perhaps Texas is bigger, but Iowa is the original. Great selection of free entertainment, too many things to see, tons of fun. I have seen many world class entertainers at the free shows over... More

The Iowa State Fair grounds provide a home for many different activities through the year, but the best of all is the State Fair itself. Young or old, the Iowa State Fair provides a multitude of opportunities ...including more than just fun things. There are many educationally oriented activities and events as well. There are a number of top-notch professionals... More
