The East Village is my favorite area of Des Moines. It boasts lots of local small businesses that offer everything from antiques, used books, old plumbing parts, specialty foods, pet stores, spas, and trendy boutiques. The East Village is the perfect location for a "Girl's Day" in Des Moines

To experience a true Phoenix part of Des Moines, in other words, a community that has been reborn from a once decaying neighborhood, make sure you explore this area when visiting our capital city. East Village, now named for the upscale neighborhood it has become in recent years, attracted developers and retailers who had the wisdom and foresight to turn... More

The area's very vintage. Beautiful scenic routes as well as Lofts. Look forward to the additions from Vivid illusions.

Very different from downtown....less parking spots and more to see while you walk around and explore. Place is filled with old building and small businesses that attract the curious eye. I love the restaurants and the streets there. Go there if you're Downtown and looking to clear your mind. Find a spot to dinner or party.

Surprise--Des Moines is home to sophisticated shopping and great places for lunch and dinner. Try "Open Sesame" for their Middle Eastern food and Aimee's for trendy clothes.

I really enjoyed the East Village. There are a lot of nice restaurants, unique shops, theater and art options and interesting history. This is one of my favorite sections of New York.

EV is very trendy, but I'm not sure why. If you like shabby chic, then ok. Area very eclectic...lot's of old & nasty places, meet newer overpriced real estate. Very hip place for young people or old people trying to recapture their youth. Good bar scene, downtown lights, but a parking garage is in order over here.

Although there is a lot of construction in the area (progress is good!) it is still easy to get around in this area to all the fun shops, galleries, restaurants and wine bars. Park your car and walk this small area to enjoy all the specialty shops.
