A wonderful step into the past history of Iowa City...Found that Iowa City minted and accepted their own currency...until the Feds shut it down.

Stopped in after a football game. Very nice museum with a ton of history. It was very interesting reading up on Iowa history as it relates to the Old Capitol building.

Great picture of early Iowa history with the recreation of the legislative chambers. Small but nice selection in giftshop. Great place to get out of the heat while touring the camus on a hot Iowa August Day.

While there is no required admission fee there is a box for suggested donations that go towards maintaining the museum. Their hours are always listed on their website; currently they are open Tuesday-Sunday. Thursday they... More
