A lovely afternoon enjoying the sights of Desoto Wildlife Refuge. We were hoping to see eagles, but there were none visible this trip. However, in viewing area overlooking the water had an abundance of ducks and some swans. We even saw a possum at a feeder! Also, included is the Bertrand museum. A steam ship going to the gold fields of... More

My wife and I have been taking our children and now our grandchildren to the Desoto National Wildlife Refuge since the visitors' center opened. We have seen eagles, hundreds of thousand snow geese as they migrated south for the winter, deer, coyotes, ducks, and lots of birds on our visits. The visitors' center is a year 'round treasure, for it... More

So beautiful.......you pay 3$ per vehicle to get in and can explore by driving or hiking around. When I went there were fish literally jumping out of the water all around. Also!!! Don't wash your car right before you go. There is white gravel roads and the dust gets everywhere!!

At three dollars a person for the entry fee, it was a great bargain to drive, hike, and tour the substantial grounds and view the wildlife -- deer, ducks, cranes, turtles, sharks (no sharks, just kidding), and birds. The visitor center was way better than typical for a park of this kind. Very interesting and informative. A very pleasant stop... More

Stumbled onto this gem. Awesome opportunities to observe wildlife. Kayaking and biking with nature. Enjoyed the Nature Center and exhibit on the Bertram.

This "must-see" refuge is an outstanding resource that attracts wildlife lovers and history buffs. The visitor center is a very impressive facility with amazing and informative exhibits, as well as viewing areas to observe the birds and other wildlife. The displays of artifacts from the sunken sternwheeler Bertrand are incredible. The indoor viewing area features large windows and spacious tiered... More

Although this is a wildlife refuge, we managed to visit in a season when the wildlife was anything but abundant. We saw more turtles and songbirds than anything else. But apparently, during migration seasons, other birds flock in. And even without much wildlife, this place is well worth a visit. For us, the principal attraction was the small museum dedicated... Beautiful place. The Nature Center is wonderful with the Steamboat Bertrand exhibit and view on the Missouri River. No major migration taking place while we were there.
