This was a very interesting piece of local history. A quiet peaceful place that doesn't take long to visit not much of a hike but a very nice wide paved sidewalk. The only slightly disappointing part is the 10-foot fall tall chain link fence put there for safety reasons. It doesn't block your view only inhibits camera pictures of the... More

The Chief War Eagle Monument is a little underwhelming. It's easy to see from I-29, but difficult to find the entrance. Riverside Blvd from the west side or 4th street from the east side are the easiest way to find it. Both are connected by War Eagle Drive. A single easy-to-miss sign on a stone monument marks the turn off.... More

The view from the War Eagle Monument is worth the trip out there. It overlooks the river and much of the valley below. A few more interpretive signs and displays could be warranted to help explain the story of the Chief, however it is still a great site to visit. Would be a great place for a picnic in the... More

It's a nice monument to two early leaders of Sioux Falls. It takes a bit of a hike. There isn't a whole lot to see or do around it. If there had been more time I would have been interested in walking a bit more of the paved trail next to it.

Had to go up the hill. Didn't have signs, had to keep driving through the woods to get to the top. Some good information about the chief, and his daughters marrying a white man that he was friends with.

Great place to view the scenery, can see 3 states from the bluffs. Below the bluff the Big Sioux River joins up with the Missouri river.

My brother and Iived only a couple blks from War Eagle Monument. Where it sits now is not the original site. Was formerly on the Furthest hill to the west. It is now in its third location. was moved twice due to mudslides. previous monuments were not as large as the current one. Also they have added a monument to... More

Chief War Eagle is buried here, on high ground in Iowa City, overlooking the confluence of the Sioux and Missouri Rivers. From there you can see both Nebraska and South Dakota. The statue atop the monument is an abstraction, not an actualrepresentation.

Off the average track but worth the trip. Great piece of local history and the view is one of the best in the tri state area. You can pack a lunch and take a hike. Fall is a special time of the year but every season brings its own rewards.

My daughter and I finally made it up there last year, we have lived here for almost 20 years and I never took the time. I am so glad I did. Like I said, not only it is educational, it is informative too about the town we lived in. I loved it!

Thank Anh D
