Situated at the southwestern corner of Kansas, the Cimarron National Grasslands is nearly 110,000 acres of flat, impressive terrain with low vegetative growth. Its ancient Point of Rocks offers spectacular views, and the underground Cimarron River affords lush greenery above a dry riverbed.

Cimarron National Grasslands takes a special kind of understanding. It is not lush. It is remote. The wind tends to blow. Summer can be incredibly hot, winter dangerously cold. Dust storms, hailstorms, lightning, tornadoes, and blizzards come and go. The roads are not always comfortable...More

There is almost no public land in Kansas. Here in the SW part of the state is the only large piece of public land. It has lovely prairie grasses that extend as far as the eye can see. The river bottom is covered in trees...More

My hunting partners and I camped 4 nights at this hidden gem of a campground. It offers 12 back-in sites with some deep enough to accommodate a 30' RV and truck. Each site has a tent pad, gravel parking area, picnic table, and fire ring....More

My kids and I was very surprised by this park. We was expecting just flat land but there's rolling hills and cliffs. The hike at the point of rocks was not to hard and gives you a great view from the bottom. I recommend Cimarron...More

Good stop for some great western Kansas views. I suggest making the trek over to the Point of Rocks, but if time is short the Cimarron River Overlook is still a great place to take in the scenery. The trip is a quick 10-15 minute...More

I can understand the logic in why the area became the National Grasslands - it should never have been anything else in the first place. As far as something worth very much time to visit... not so much. The area is very poorly maintained! Don't...More

We were driving back to Chicago form California and this was on the route. We stopped in Elkhart to ask directions and the ranger was very friendly and genuinely surprised that tourists were interested in going there! We did part of the driving tour, stopping...More

Thanks to a wet winter & even wetter spring and decades of conservation, we have these beautiful grasslands to {hopefully} prevent another Dust Bowl in this country. Driving for seemingly forever in the waving fields is so peaceful.

This was our most favorite stay-over of our three week camping trip. It is quite remote with nothing around for miles. We were there in late June when the sunflowers were all in bloom on the prairie and the stars were unobscured by the light...More
