This post is one of the first west of the Missouri River and very historic with great grounds and old buildings. There is a nice museum to visit and just driving the grounds is enjoyable

Buffalo Soldier Monument is a must see. There are places to stop and read history of Fort Leavenworth. I worked on Fort Leavenworth for 34 plus years.

Remember to have i.d. Ready! I'm from Minnesota so needed a passport card per website info. It was a nice drive along the river where beautiful homes overlook it. This is a large army base with loads of walking trails, buffalo park and national cemetery.

I lived in Leavenworth for a number of years and was at the dedication of the Buffalo Solider Monument. The fort is a beautiful place to visit, however since 911 it is a little more difficult to get on to visit. The buildings are full...More

The number of visitors to the post has dropped off significant since enhanced security measures have gone into effect. The plus side of this is that crowds are much smaller than before. On the other hand, if you don't have some sort of military ID,...More

We have traveled over all the base numerous times as we go to the commissary when we can. I love going down the streets. They are a bit narrow, but that just adds a little bit more quaintness to the base. The Buffalo Soldier Monument...More

Yes I agree to come a day or so early to get a one day pass to not have a delay on Memorial Day. My husband and I have cards to get on Post so the only way I know is to go to Visitor Center and get the one day pass. You... More

This Friday the 31st, 4 couples will be coming to Ft. Leavenworth and would love to have a guided tour. Does the Post offer any such tours; if so how can we get in touch to make arrangements? Would also like more info on the restaurant in the old prison remains. Any tips for a faster entry onto the post, we are all civilians and will have 2 cars. Planning to be there around 2pm. Thanks in advance for your help! Debbie from Overland Park, KS
