On display are some real treasures in folk art in a variety of media, from limestone to glass to aluminum pull-tabs to wood. The guide provided some information on history of the artists and many of the works. This was a fun outing. Some of the works were in a courtyard outside, so it is best to visit on a... More

I had heard that this was an interesting place to visit and I was not disappointed. The variety of ways that people have used to express themselves is amazing. The guide was enthusiastic and very thorough in her presentation and was able to provide more information than the exhibits offered. Well worth the trip off the beaten path.

This was a really interesting tour! Seeing different styles of artwork from people who were not trained in art at all. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered lots of questions! It was an extra nice day when we toured so we walked from the art center to one of the locations! Visit this place when you visit Lucas,... More

I'm glad that my boyfriend and I included the Grassroots Art Center in our cultural visit to Lucas. While the art is interesting, none of it particularly appealed to me. The staff/volunteer to helped lead our tour was a bit clipped and not very excited to help us engage with the art. If time, stop here. But if not, I... More

Awesome little museum/gallery/store of amazing pieces of non formal art. Totally worth the lovely drive side trip to get there. Eccentric little town with assorted art here there and everywhere. The public toilet is a MUST see. And girls check out the boys and boys check out the girls!

The day we had scheduled for the Grassroots Art Center was chilly, windy, and raining; not ideal for an anticipated walking tour of the town. We started at the Art Center itself because we understood they had maps to the various attractions, but an artist had drawn the map for decorative purposes rather than to help anyone actually find the... There are LOTS of things to see in Lucas (believe it or not), including the art center. Take your time and do the tours.

This center was very interesting. The tour guide was very helpful and informative. Great place to see. You must stop and check out the public bathroom. Wow! Neatest bathroom I've ever scene.

Unassuming but thoroughly fascinating look into the artistic compulsions of people, added to a great architectural mini-tour of how limestone became the building material of choice in central Kansas.

This is center that displays the creation of people who liked to create but who have had no formal training. The creations are simply amazing, and the Center's executive director, Rosslyn Schultz gives an excellent tour of the Center's exhibits and of a nearby home that is filled with "extraordinary art by ordinary people." My wife and I love to... More
