This is a must do - can't believe it's free! It's worth going in just to see the stained glass windows. Great section on Huey Long - very informative and felt really impartial too. Staff were lovely and a nice way to spend an hour.

If you are in Baton Rouge and have a little extra time, you must stop by this beautiful landmark. The tour is free and the buildings and grounds are worth the stop. The stained glass is exquisite.

This is a nice little walk from downtown Baton Rouge, and it's a beautiful, clean monument to Louisiana state history. The stained glass is gorgeous and unusual!

The Old State Capitol is truly a gem of architecture in downtown Baton Rouge. I still can't believe that it is free to visit. I was lucky and found a parking spot right in front of the site but Baton Rouge is a very walkable city and the Capitol is in a safe neighborhood. I would have to say that... More

Living in Baton Rouge we visit the Old Capitol sort of regularly for different functions. It's a great morning destination for visitors because of the beautiful stained glass--it's lit wonderfully in the morning light. The incredible spiral staircase to the second floor is worth the visit alone, if for pictures alone. Gives a good background of the history of Louisiana... More

Preservationists got it right when they fought plans to demolish the Old State Capitol. The Gothic structure and its historic contents are well worth the visit and IT'S FREE! The gorgeous stained glass "dome" is most unusual: it's inside the building. Bring your camera. The cast iron spiral staircase makes a great foreground shooting the overhead dome. Like most museums,... More

I visited twice and I enjoyed it both times. Definitely would recommend it if you are in the area. Don't forget to check the hours ( closed on Sunday, I think). Very nice structure and the exhibits are interesting.
