Lake Martin is without a doubt the place to take pictures. This area is untouched and nothing has been cut down. There are full grown trees, bird roost and even a boardwalk that extends out into the lake. In warmer weather you will see alligators. There are also boat tours. If you have a kayak or Canoe bring it. The... More

We have been to Lake Martin a couple of times but this trip most of the area was inaccessible. The massive floods they had last August took a toll on the boardwalk system so these are closed until further notice. The visitor center was also not open. The levee trail was open but we had done this a previous visit... More

Love Lake Martin located not far from St Martinville, my home town. An rare egret rookery. Be sure to bring your camera. View Louisiana wildlife, giant gators and turtles. Stay at a local B&B in nearby Breaux Bridge or historic St Martinville. Well worth the visit.

I rented a kayak and paddled for an hour through the cypress swamps. A fair number of birds and a few turtles, but I did not see any gators. Most likely because it was a pretty cool day.

We rented a canoe early when the mist was out and then took with Cajun Country Swamp Tours later in the day during sunset. Bob, our guide, was very knowledgeable and compared to their competitor, I'm sure we chose the right tour company (there are only two at Martin Lake... ours was $20/pp for two hours. Theirs was $25 for... More
