20 or so years ago I went on a tour at Destrehan. Yesterday (4/26/17) I went again. What an improvement. Our tour guide yesterday, Beverly, was full of information, presented clearly and moved along. The description and depiction of the enslaved peoples was respectful, accurate and clearly treated as people. 20 years ago that was not the case. 20 years... More

Close to New Orleans, this was the perfect day trip. Our guide, Beverly, was absolutely fantastic! She was entertaining and welcoming and her depth of knowledge was superb! The plantation was lovely and the grounds are simply beautiful.

Beverly, our tour guide, was fantastic! It was obvious that she cared about people as she first learned our names and referred to us by name throughout the tour. She knew the history of the plantation well, gave us background about the foliage, the daily life, the architecture, the Destrahan family, the slaves who lived and served the Destrehans. We... More

Though timing prevented me from touring the home, the gift shop and setting were lovely. The shop had a myriad of cookbooks and mementos at very reasonable prices.

I would like to start by thanking Jim, our tour guide, for the interesting and informative tour he gave us. The Destrehan Plantation is well worth a visit to see an old plantation house as well as the reclaimed slave cabins. A great insight to the way both sides lived and the history of the families. The house and grounds... More

We were staying in NOLA with our kids (ages 16 -5) looking for something different to do. This is a short drive from the city. The grounds are beautiful and it's a nice quiet break that is just the right amount of time (not too long or short). The tour, including our looking/walking around took about an hour total. We... Plantation is beautiful and very well cared for. It's an easy drive from New Orleans. The history is well preserved and the story well told, especially by Beverly! Definitely Find her for your tour if you can!! Some beautiful photo spots and some much needed fresh air :).

We arrived and we couldn't take the next tour because a bus was on the way, they referred us to a restaurant down the road ( which gets 5 stars BTW). When we came back, the next tour was filled so we waited even longer. Our guide was not great. Questions our tour asked were not really answered and the... More

The grounds are lovely and the focus of the staff on telling the story of the people who lived on the plantation really brings the place to life. Our tour guide, Beverly, was wonderful. She was very friendly and, perhaps more importantly, exceptionally knowledgeable on the subject matter. It was a fantastic experience!
