A walk back in time

Lovely grounds with a chance to learn about the history of the Bayou Teche area and early settlers. We went as a family group with some visiting from several states.

Evangeline State Park is about 30 minutes south of Lafayette, but the drive there and the time spent gives one a nice sense of life faced by Louisiana's Creole and Acadian settlers. The main attraction is the restored home of the Olivier family. It's a fine example of raised Creole architecture and is surrounded by some reproductions of period buildings... More

We had a tour of the Plantation from a very knowledgeable guide. Also, the staff in the exhibit area were very well informed about cajun history and life style.

Although I live just a few hours away, I had never visited this area or really knew much about the history of the people. This park was so pretty and interesting. It did not take long to see everything but that left time to see everything we wanted in the area in one day.

My high school crowd used to celebrate the end of Lent with a picnic to this park on Holy Saturday: at that time, the old Maraist house was being turned into a museum. Later, an Acadian Cottage was added. Both are well worth seeing, as is the park itself, which border Bayou Teche and had magnificent live oaks. Lovely oasis... More

I loved this place. I was there on a rainy day in winter and so had a lot of the site to myself. The guide who showed me around cared a lot about her culture and was so willing to allow me to experience it. She knew her stuff and told me all about the Acadian people and their experience... More

This site in St. Martinsville, near to Lafayette, is the Heart of Acadiana / Acadian heritage. Excellent park visitor's center with quite nice background film. The plantation house tour is a cultural highlight. Lots of open spaces for kids to have fun, plus you'll learn about Longfellow's Evangeline & the Acadians. Tres Bien...

Close to Lafayette, this place is beautiful, moss-hanging trees. Staff very nice and helpful, even open on Sundays. Good for kiddos too. Make sure you watch the video before taking the tour of plantation. Very interesting account of the historical cultural beginnings of this area.

Interesting if you like history. I recommend going spring or fall. Summer too hot. The oak trees are beautiful and majestic. I took my kids and they enjoyed the open space. I loved the history recommended
