This is maintained by the National Park Service (happy 100th anniversary!) and like everywhere else the rangers do a good job here. You can watch a movie (about 30 minutes) about the history of Acadians expulsion from Nova Scotia. Then, there are many exhibits about the various aspects of life in the region - from material culture to music, songs,... More

This is a National Park Service museum so was free. They show a short movie and have nice displays on life of Acadians and Cajuns in Acadiana. Free parking.

The best way to get an introduction to Acadiana, also known as French Acadiana and Cajun Country, is a visit to the Acadiana Cultural Center at Jean Lafitte National Park. It's easy to find, across the road from the airport, and has a small museum and a short but beautiful and informative film (shown hourly) that tells the story of... More

was amazed at the wealth of info...the impact of the new arrivals and their contributions to the gumbo soup/mixing bowl that make this area so fantastic is wonderful. Will definitely go again next time in the area.

The ranger (a Ms. Jodie B.?) the day my cousins & I visited the Center was especially nice & answered all our questions we still had about the Acadians after watching the film. Two of us cousins lay down on the floor next to the 18 feet of blue tape depicting the largest gator caught in LA so the 3rd... More

I was interested in the Junior Ranger Program that I read about on some blogs, and I discovered that there is a Junior Ranger Program right here in Lafayette. I decided to take my kids there and check it out. There is a wealth of information here to learn about the Acadians. It's also free and right next door to... More

It Is a place the can not be missed! A lot to learn about the Cajun culture and the French heritage of this part of USA so different from the rest of the country. My favorite part of the visit was watching the film that , I highly recommend .

This small, modern museum has a nice exhibit that includes both local antiques and informative visual displays. The film isn't that great though, it seems to be trying to hard to be dramatic instead of presenting an objective view of historical facts. Overall it's worth visiting though.
