Another jem to take in on the way to see the Miagao Church farther south. Similar to Miagao, this one features intricate floral stone carving. There is considerable evidence in the literature that the skilled building trades in the Visayas were dominated by Chinese craftsmen....More

This is one church in Iloilo with a very complicated history and architectural design. To start with, very little is known about the history of this church except that it was founded as a "visita" of Oton in 1575 and later became a parish in...More

Within the church, there is a beautiful mosaic of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This may not be medieval art, but it is nevertheless eye catching. There is another mosaic over the front door with Jesus Christ and his disciples. The church is not grand like...More

Unlike its rich Spanish era façade, the interior of this church is quite intricate, with its large fresco above the altar dome, the stone mosaic finish of the pillars and walls, the decorative metal roof support, the simple chandeliers and the colourful mosaic of the...More

The 3rd church starting in Miag-ao going back to Iloilo City. This church has a different vibe which turns you into a throwback of old Spanish era. Situated strategically at the town center and easily spotted by the weary travelers. Food establishments can be seen...More

The Tigbauan, Guimbal and Miagao churches should all be visited when you are in Iloilo City. A taxi or other trip is reasonably priced and these old Spanish churches are all lovely and represent a past that is long gone.

This Catholic Church is a most imposing structure made better by its frescoes. There are too many cheap looking retail stalls in the access street nearby, but the gardens are quite attractive. It is no doubt well patronised for Sunday Masses but when we visited...More
