We were lucky to see this as they were closing for a few months for some essential repairs. It was a sunny day and we got there not long after it opened at 9:00am, the grounds are fantastic to walk about in, you might even see the peacock. Inside the entrance/museum part, you can see a 12 minute film of... More

The Oakley House is closed for nine months to a year for lead abatement of the paint on the outside. If you were to get close enough to see it, all you would see was a white tarp. Call before you go to make sure the house is finished. The site is run by the state, so I'm sure it's... More

When touring St. Francisville you must stop in and take a tour of the Oakley Plantation. It is not too far from downtown St. Francisville and well worth your time. You can learn a little about Audubon's time in St. Francisville.

Unique Caribbean-style plantation home built in 1801. Decorated to this period, so it lacks the opulence you see in a Rosedown or Nottoway Plantation mansion, but it's so interesting and lovely in it's own way. Loved the sleeping porch with it's breeze, the unique foot tub, and the kitchen and work areas behind the home. The very best part was... More

We found this plantation very interesting as it is not ornate, but very practical in design. Tour was interesting, yet, our guide did not seem to welcome questions - she was knowledgeable, but maybe just having an 'off' day. We found the porch on the second floor with the slats and rounded ceiling lovely! Can imagine spending some time out... More

If you are expecting a "Gone With the Wind" type of plantation, then this is not it. If you want a historically accurate plantation then this is a must see! I do advise anyone who goes and sees it in the winter months to dress in warm weather clothing. This plantation is set in a state park so there are... More

This was the first Plantation that I ever visited. The tour guide knew her history about the plantation.

Visited as part of our travels to plantations in the area. Certainly do like the paintings of Audubon but you don't have to have an interest in him to visit. With so many plantations, this one had some other really different architectural features that we interesting to see. Tour guide was amazing. He did a great job of telling us... More

This is a different type of plantation. The home has been restored to what it was years ago....no fancy remakes or updated furniture. Very interesting stories of this location.
