I would suggest calling ahead. Sometimes events like the acadian music monday night's can be cancelled. Its run by volunteers. Its ok , there are about 8 different movies the ranger can put in for you and lots of books to read and displays. You could spend hours here. They also run boat swamp tours from the bayou dock which... More

The center offers a range of tours, in addition to their displays of Acadian life in this part of Louisiana. I especially liked the boats hand-hewn from large logs that are displayed, and there are recordings of Acadians speaking their version of French, which is pretty difficult to understand even if you speak standard French (many locals speak a sort... We enjoyed this small museum and the folks who ran it. Everyone was friendly and very helpful in answering our questions. They are trying to keep the Cajun traditions alive and well and a small group was there to meet and speak Cajun French. Not only were they friendly but they also shared places to visit in the area! Some... More

The Acadians are in peril of losing their language, so they gather on Tuesday nights here to converse and tell their tales in French! We went in a little apprehensive since we are from the northern part of the country, but we were welcomed like long lost family. the evening went by like a flash, there was so much to... More

This is the perfect place to get background info on area heritage. Great little museum with excellent selection of Louisiana books in their gift shop. The ranger we talked with has extensive knowledge regarding the geologic background of the area which was a special treat for us.

A friend and I went on a spur of the moment drive into Bayou country to get out of New Orleans on a recent visit. We pretty much just pointed the car out of New Orleans and went for a drive towards the Bayou country. Stumbled across this place which is part of the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park. There... We read about the Cultural Center in a pamphlet that contained information about activities in and near New Orleans. So we took a chance and went there. We were not disappointed! When we arrived Ranger Rodriguez warmly greeted us and introduced us to what we can see and do at the center. She suggested we might want to start with... More

The staff of Acadian Cultural Center know all about the history and architecture of the area. Museum has great artifacts and cultural pieces. Every couple of months the community, Thibodaux Playhouse, produces a Broadway play in the theater.
