We spent three nights here and ate in the restaurant each night. We were in the House for the older sons. The food was fantastic (and we have eaten in some top restaurants around the world), the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and enthusiastic--above and beyond usual southern hospitality--and the grounds were beautiful and beautifully kept. The organisation in the... More

I took the guided tour, and was lucky to have the very knowledgeable and pleasant guide, Julie, for myself, as nobody else signed up. The mansion is very impressive, and has been beautifully renovated after decades of neglect. The visit gives a very good insight of what the life was like on a very successful plantation, before, during and after... More

State #20 of our 50-State Quest. 8 states covered this year with 7 of them being new ones. Looking on a map you will see this trip maybe the largest area wise covered in all our years. ((done in August of 1993 not 2016)) This time we are only going to cover one of those states in this review. Funny... More

I have passed this plantation home many times all my life. This time I made a point of stopping to visit. It is a beautiful building that has an operating "resort" including the use of the mansion for rooms. Visiting at Christmas permitted a showing of beautiful decorations in the ball room. It was a 'limited tour" with docents to... More

The tour of the plantation was fantastic. Our guide was dressed in 1800 era clothing and was knowledgable and informative about the house's history. The tour focused a lot on the family life of the original occupants and was interesting to learn about the customs of the time period. Overall a great experience!

Nottoway is a must see along the "Great River" road. It is the largest of the mansions which have survived...and that is huge! We certainly enjoyed our guided tour from a very knowledgeable guide. An absolutely beautiful mansion! We only had time for the tour of the mansion; however, rooms inside the mansion (very rare in most historic mansions) and... More

We stayed the night here in one of the cottages and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Tour was very interesting & breakfast delicious. I did write them in advance to request a baby crib and they didn't reply other then a standard " we received your email & will contact you shortly". However they did not despite us writing them again;... More

four of us took the tour of the mansion. It was superbly conducted and our tour guide was extremely informative. The house is marvelous and one can actually touch the artifacts and sit of the antique furniture. We loved the grandeur of the mansion. Felt like we were in the movie Gone with the Wind. Only glitch is the rest... More
