There's a little beach on the side of the island facing the Spruce Point Inn...it's FULL of sea glass. We spent hours out there and came home with bags and bags of it.

The Burnt Island Lighthouse tour is a fun day out. The tour consists of about a 20 minute boat ride (included in the ticket) from the pier in Boothbay, and an island/lighthouse tour on Burnt Island. The tour is done in the style of a sort of Plymouth Plantation-style recreation village. The actors tell the story of a family that lived out on the island in the 1950's, and you visit their restored home and can climb up to the top of the lighthouse. They also take you around the island and tell you about the local history, wildlife and fisheries. It is a very informative and fun tour - I recommend it!

My children enjoy visiting light houses. We were very surprised to have actors from the 1950's giving portraying their life on Burnt Island as the light keeper and his family. No other lighthouse we have been too has done that so it was a nice perspective. We visited on one of those picture perfect days so each vista off the island was better than the next. We wished we could have spent more time exploring and just sitting and enjoying the view. We were thrilled to find the osprey nest on the back of the island with one of the parents glaring down at us and the other flying over head. It was an excellent day. My tweens gave it 10 out of 10.

We have truly loved Burnt Island for many years. This year, however, we were so sad to find the island inundated with ticks. This was NEVER an issue before. We walked the trail on June 24 staying on the path and wooden walkways only, not venturing off at all, and everyone in our small group had several ticks each after just 20 minutes. Unfortunately, we won’t go back and I would caution against bringing children, who might be tempted to step into taller grass which would be a big mistake. I hope something can be done to address this problem because it is a special place.

The lighthouse and island are lovely and the volunteers have coordinated a wonderful tour, full of info and history. The down side is...especially at low tide, the ramp from the boat dock is a challenge to anyone who has trouble walking - nearly vertical. I was concerned that my hubby was going to "go into the drink". Then the hike up the hill to the lighthouse itself presented another challenge. Fortunately they did have a golf cart to transport him to the top, but that boat ramp was "iffy". Something folks might want to consider before making this trip.

The actors and actresses at Burnt Island Lighthouse turned back the clock to 1950 to interpret the life of a lighthouse family. The events they related where taken from real life stories reported by real lighthouse family. Well worth the price of admission.

This visit starts with a boat ride to the island. You get a short talk about the history of the lighthouse and then actors portraying the family that lived there in the 1950s give interesting talks about what their lives are like. Actors are all very good. You can go up into the lighthouse.

The lighthouse was awesome. Scenery was just great. We took the boat tour from the spruce point inn, guests only. Great tour, burnt island and bald eagles, and harbor seals. Who could ask for more.

This was our first activity during our Boothbay stay. We took the lighthouse tour where we had a beautiful boat ride to the island followed by a wonderful tour. The staff had the island set up as it was in the 1950's and gave a great and interesting history of the island. Afterwards, we were given an hour to explore the island on our own before taking the boat back to the mainland. It is absolutely worth experiencing!!

I have gone to Boothbay Harbor for years but unbeknownst to me the tour at Burnt Island Lighthouse began approx. 10 years ago. It was an excellent choice. Just a brief 15 minute boat ride and you are there. It was warm and sunny when we arrived. A brief talk to let you know what you will be seeing and then you are split into manageable groups to continue. You are told what life was like for a lighthouse keeper and his family during the 1950's. I was fascinated. I learned a lot in a friendly, casual way and it made me thirsty to learn more. You hear from his wife and what life was like for her with a family to raise, isolation, no refrigeration and no indoor sanitary facilities. The children also gave a brief talk and they were very good knowing their lines but the youngest of the girls was a bit too precocious for me. (Being a former schoolteacher I have had a lot of that through the years.) I would definitely recommend this trip and if I lived in Boothbay I would be a volunteer for this worthy endeavor. Thank-you!
