The Museum keeper let us in even though the Museum was closed for the season.

This was such an interesting place. A lot of history and artifact. Learned the origin of many Castine townspeople. Museum keeper was so nice to let us tour this museum.

Large collection now just east coast. Many southwest Indian, Alaskan and other cultures represented. Building is beautiful. Classes and exhibits in season.

I dropped in this little museum while visiting Castine, expecting it to be somewhat pedestrian. To my surprise, the exhibits were most varied and entertaining. It is a real gem.

Really this is a place made to house a private collection of objects and art collected by the williams family on their life time. It's and example of a time when just about anything of historical or cultural value could be had by those wealthy enough to travel to where it such things were available. fossils, basket, ivory..indian artifacts and... Stopped here for the view but the kids (6 and 9) loved learning about the rocks, tools and loom on the ground floor. Kids had the full attention of a staff person, Grace, who answered all their questions and engaged them in learning even more. Wonderful surprise!

We had no idea just exactly how much history existed in Castine, Maine!! This museum offers the entire history of Castine from its very beginning. A beautiful walking tour of this quaint oceanfront town will take you right to the doors of so.e of the most interesting history of our founding!

So much in a small space, yet not overwhelming. Nice displays. Don't miss the downstairs section. There was a wonderful interactive loom/weaving installation my son and I both enjoyed very much, great addition! Wish we could've seen the blacksmith shop in action.

Old Castine artifacts and other historical relics from other places. I thought there would be more from the history of Castine which was held by the British and French at one time.
