A variety of trails through the woods, great for walking, running, xc skiing (experienced skiers only), and snowshoeing. Some pleasant surprises are tucked away inside--two ponds, "whale rock," a lovely stone fireplace with benches, amphitheater, apple tree with bench. Main entrance on Montello has a...More

What a wonderful place to go, to have a great quick day of fun! Before place for hiking and snowshoeing. Plenty of flat surface and one great hill for a small challenge.

Fun trails, plenty of shade on the sunny days. A few spots with some really nice views and some historical sites. Rated a 4 due to not being able to bring dogs. That alone keeps us from going there like we use to and it’s...More

If you find yourself in Lewiston or Auburn Maine and have a little free time, the Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary is a little jewel. While it calls itself a bird sanctuary I found very few birds. Lots of evidence of Pileated Woodpeckers but no sighting. What...More

Thorncrag is a little gem of nature in the middle of a city. A little exertion is required to go all the way to the top so this is not for couch potatoes. Some trails are easier than others. The main trail takes from 15-30...More

Thorncrag is a peaceful hiking/birding/nature area only minutes from the bustling city of Lewiston. A good parking area and ample trails and trail markings give the solitary escape seeker or the family gang on an outing plenty of room to explore and enjoy the woods.
