Jasper Beach near Machias, ME is one of hidden gems of the area. Not a sand beach, but rounded water-smoothed stones in multiple colors. The view is truly spectacular with trees, islands and a light house off in the far distance while you listen to...More

The views are spectacular (as they are on much of the coast in Washington Cty). I don't think we've ever been the only hikers on the trail.

The Bold Coast trail in Machias may take some work getting to, but is completely worth the effort. The trail is well marked and in great shape. About half the trail goes through fields, marshes, and forests which are pristine and beautiful, while the other...More

The scenery just doesn't stop! It is endlessly, beautiful. What a terrific detour. I recommend turning down Boot Cove Road...Wow! Another perk is that it takes you near Monica's Chocolates in Lubec!

I'd always heard about "The Bold Coast" hikes but never knew how to get to them or if they were just easy strolls or real hiking. If you want a short hike with incredible views of the Bay of Fundy, you can get it here...More

Unbelievable!!!! See puffins in their own habitat on Machias Seal Island. It also has one of the last two manned lighthouses in the U.S. The lighthouse keepers are from Canada and stay on the island 30 days at a time. This is an awesome place...More

I would stay in either East Machias @ the Riverside Inn, or in Machias @ either the Machias River Inn or the Inn @ Schoppee Farm. Both the Inn @ Schoppee Farm and the Riverside Inn are great little inns with wonderfully nice... More
