This place is so interesting. You can walk all through it. Take a flash light because there are some dark corners to explore. It looks out over the water. When done take a walk on the beach. We saw a few seals enjoying the water. This is a free attraction. Pack a lunch.

Off the beaten path, but worth the trip. The historical information is pretty thorough, but you're on your own, as there don't seem to be any rangers/interpreters around. Nice beach for a walk. And very nice setting. Parking is a mess, though.

This old fort provides a fun adventure, a great beach, free entrance (but limited parking), and opportunities for fishing. The best part? It doesn't cost a nickel. If you only have a couple of hours and don't want to pay the entrance fees for the State Park, this is an outstanding alternative!

Had no idea this historical site existed. Who knew such a fortress was built during the Civil War? We stumbled upon this site while seeking a beach to walk on. So, we got a double treat. Well worth the trip to see it.

We had a meal up from the fort so as we were there we decided to have a look around. Unfortunately the fort was closed but we were able to get the jist of what it was from the outside and looking through the gates. When the tide is out you can walk along the rocks around the fort -... More

This place is so cool, the views, the area surrounding it, the activities going on all around you make the experience like being transported to another time. There is a small beach to the right of the fort and benches along a walkway that goes along the waterfront. This is a great place to fish or picnic, to do some... More

Most of the Forts in Maine were built, but never used. Isn't that the idea? To be so fortified that we do not become attack! History buffs will enjoy this. Children have a safe area to run and play. Photographers will love taking photos of the ocean. And there is the beautiful State Park with a beach nearby. Bring your lunch... More

I was looking for a place to enjoy the sunset at the coast with my mother and young daughters and as Popham State Park was closing we continued on to this Fort historic site that the front desk person at the hotel had recommended. It was a nice surprise and we enjoyed it. My girls went running off through the... More

We had visited the Desert of Maine and the tour guide had recommended that we stay at Spinneys Restaurant & Guest Houses the best beach you will ever see in Maine. We had lunch at Spinneys Restaurant and rented a room for the night. This place is right on the water. All the food is house made and was excellent.... More
