I’d been to Popham Beach but never to the historic Fort. Now I can’t wait to return! No charge, easy parking. Wonderful location for shooting interesting photos. I could spend half a day there just photographing the various rooms, sight lines, corners and stairs!

Was looking for a suitable back drop that said 'Maine in October' - this filled that bill. Our car club publishes an Annual calendar and has a contest for photos for each of the twelve months. We were looking for scenes that were Maine coastal...More

If you like historical places, this is for you...along with Fort Baldwin. Found it interesting, just wish there was more of a writeup about it. Had to search Internet for more info. Did enjoy

The Fort never was finished and you can't get to the top to have a good view. It has some stuff to read but, really not great.

Parking is very limited, but worth spending a couple of hours for a self guided tour. The views are amazing.

A very relaxing area to enjoy a picnic or visit the fort. You can soak your feet in the always cold Maine ocean. Bring along a book and find a bench to enjoy it while watching the seals offshore.

It is a bit run down as historical forts go - nothing like Fort Sumter or Castle Island. We were there on a rainy day and a good portion of the site is open to the rain. View of the harbor was very good

Fort Popham is kinda cool, gateway to the Kennebec River which the intrepid [including Benedict Arnold] could travel all the way to Quebec. Now it is an interesting relic with minimal parking.

The fort is at the tip of a peninsula at the mouth of the Kennebec river. It has really cool architectural features in brick and stone. Great photography but bring your flash, and a flashlight! There are a few lightless rooms that I would have...More

By all means. This park is at the end of the road, so park near by, and walk to wherever you feel would be a good night-time shot of the fort. Some fascinating history with this place.

Phippsburg is further south- it is a finger into the Atlantic just below Bath(Bath Iron Works; Maine Maritime Museum). If you are travelling from Portland, it takes about an hour to get here. Travel time from the above would... More
