There's not a lot to see except some ruins of a Civil War Era Fort that never saw action. It is in an interesting location - the mouth of the Kennebec River. There's a small beach where you can walk (leashed dogs allowed) and an...More

After stopping at Popham Beach, you should visit this historic fort in very good condition. You can walk on both levels and climb a stairway to the rooftop. Several explanatory panels on the 1st floor.

I’d been to Popham Beach but never to the historic Fort. Now I can’t wait to return! No charge, easy parking. Wonderful location for shooting interesting photos. I could spend half a day there just photographing the various rooms, sight lines, corners and stairs!

If you like historical places, this is for you...along with Fort Baldwin. Found it interesting, just wish there was more of a writeup about it. Had to search Internet for more info. Did enjoy

The Fort never was finished and you can't get to the top to have a good view. It has some stuff to read but, really not great.

By all means. This park is at the end of the road, so park near by, and walk to wherever you feel would be a good night-time shot of the fort. Some fascinating history with this place.
