Diamond Cove is really a hidden gem on Great Diamond Island off the coast of Portland, Maine. We were lucky enough to know the groundskeeper for one of the properties here, so we got a pretty cool tour of the place. This is the site of the old Fort McKinley, and the officers' quarters and barracks have been turned into... More

Stayed her with relatives for a week. Really enjoyed it. lots of history. Used to be a military base during WW 11. Now people are buying homes and renovating existing military buildings.

Beautiful secluded island just two miles from Portland on the Casco bay Lines.. Great spot to rent historic home for couples or a family, truly perfect for both.. Private area, where public is not allowed.. Great little General Store on the island for tasty sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, seafodd and more.. Wine and Beer available..

This increasingly popular place is on Great Diamond Island in Maine’s Casco Bay. Frequent ferries of Casco Bay Lines use a dock in the cove, down scenic Hussey Sound just a half-hour trip from Portland. Pleasure craft of all sorts may cover some of its surface during sunny summer days. Ramparts of historic war fortifications are opposite the dock. An... More

We rented here for the first time last year and will return this summer (1 week stay). The island is beautiful with rocky beaches and paths lined with blackberries and raspberries. Just enough adventure and mystery (a steep trail, abandoned buildings, wooded short cuts) to get the kids excited but super safe (no cars!) so they can explore independently. Top... More

You can take a Casco Bay Lines ferry but it's best to take your own boat to "Cocktail Cove" and then go ashore. The food is worth the trip.

We always make sure to schedule at least one and usually more visits each year and have done so for at least the last five years. We have even hosted a college mini-reunion there. Unless you are one of the fortunate few who live on the island or anchor your yacht in the cove, getting there requires a ferry trip... More
