We spent most weekends last summer taking the myriad tours of the cemetery. The docents are knowledgeable and eager to engage in discussing many aspects of Portland's history: Prohibition, women's rights, Civil War, artists, maritime history. Besides being a great way to get to know...More

Largest cemetery in maine. Even has guided walking tours. A chapel with weddings. 3 small ponds in the back. Not for swimming but we use to skate there as kids. I'm not sure if they are still plowed.

It would appear that everyone that has passed on has stayed in their graves. Those who are worried about the zombie apocalypse can rest easy that they will be safe in this area of Portland. The gravestones themselves also tell a story of the history...More

Though the trails can be quite muddy in the springtime, this is a great place to bring a dog for some off leash time in the woods. We tend to park by the community garden at the end of Brentwood and pick up the trail...More

A beautiful,160 year-old, park-style cemetery with paths, mausoleums and a pond with turtles and ducks. Located in a suburban neighborhood and a wonderful place to walk or just spend time. The Friends of Evergreen Cemetery offers guided walking tours in summer.

We enjoyed exploring the Evergreen Cemetery on our walk of Portland. They offer tours but we just walked and viewed everything on our own.
