Celebrating Maine's Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers...

Celebrating Maine's Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America's greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex.

We missed many Wyeth's, just a few days short of the exhibit. We thought their would be more of a standing exhibit. What we did see was terrific

We spent a couple of hours visiting, and enjoying, this excellent art museum that focuses on Maine artists. The displays were well-curated and had good explanations and backgrounds. My favorite artwork? It was only as we were leaving that I spotted my favorite piece of art, a vertical sign next to the elevator that summarized each of the museums's floors... More

My artistic sons and I were blown away and loved seeing the process he went through to create his masterpieces. His sketches are masterpieces in and of themselves!

I've been vacationing in Rockland a couple times a year for 18 years, and always make a point to stop in at the Farnsworth. Although they're known for their Wyeth exhibits which never disappoint and are always changing, the museum has many other fine pieces of art work in their collection. In addition, there are often special exhibits. For example,... More

A perfect little balance to lobster filled days. They have a very nice collection and it is small enough that the kids didn't really have time to complain about being in an art museum. Would definitely recommend for people in the area. Right in the center of the Rockland downtown area if you want to combine with lunch or dinner... More

This and the adjoining Wyeth Museum are not what you'd expect to find in a small Maine town. Nice collection displayed thoughtfully.

Right in downtown Rockland with neighboring gallery. Featuring the work of the Maine based Wyeth family. it offers much more. a first rate art museum on the mid-Maine coast. The museum has many guest artists and exhibits.

Three generations of Wyeths are represented here, making the Farnsworth a stop on anybody's New England art trail, and a good cross- section of their contemporaries are represented here, too. Check the website for temporary exhibitions. Good gift shop. Attractive town with places for lunch. We had lobster rolls al fresco, just down the street.
