This is just a wonderful art museum. My friend and I travelled here to see the Marsden Hartley exhibition (which came from the Met in NYC). We spent two hours enjoying every piece and learning a lot...all without the crowds! There’s also a kiosk for...More

Very impressive to see so many Marsden Hartley paintings in one place. This exhibit focuses on Hartley's paintings of Maine and inspires a new appreciation of this artist. As others have reviewed, the museum's permanent collection is also very enjoyable. Campus security stated there was...More

This is a fine - and free! - museum on the Colby College campus. We were fortunate to be there during a wonderful Marsden Hartley exhibit that featured his Maine-oriented paintings (we'd seen a more broad exhibit previously.) Loved the exhibit. Loved the student guides.

As I was driving to far northern Maine, I thought I would stop by Colby College and take a peek at the college campus and to see the art museum I had heard about. This art museum is incredible - what a great facility as...More

This is a wonderful little art museum and it is free. The permanent collection includes works by Sergant, Whistler, Remington, Winslow Homer, Frederic Church and others. We spent about an hour, but you could spend two depending on how much time you like art museums.

This is a first rate art museum that is in a very unlikely location - it's on a college campus of a small college in a small town in Maine. The collection is worthy of a big city. Moreover, it's free. The museum building itself...More

A bit of a drive but well worth! Beautiful building, great permanent collection, and wonderful Marsden Hartley exhibit. Great reception. No cost. Plenty of parking.

The collection is pretty large and interesting for a small college. Covers many periods of art. The building showcases the art very well. There is a separate wing with the works of Alex Katz, an artist I don't care for, but still interesting to see...More

A very well chosen collection of American artists, both old and new (an entire wing devoted to Alex Katz). Sargent, Stuart, Homer, Bellows, Church, Remington, etc. And it's free. What's not to like.

I thoroughly enjoyed Katz's paintings and always have. I even went to see them in Boston at the MFA. I also enjoyed the Colby Art Museum.
