It was our third or forth trip to the Conowingo Dam and this powerful large hydroelectric dam in the Lower Susquehanna River always looks impressive to me. I really like every opportunity to actually drive over the dam. Almost always you see birdwatchers in the area and indeed it is easy to spot an eagle or two circling around. To... More

Driving over the Conowingo Dam crosses not only a magnificent force of nature, but the force of humanity which wrestles with it. The goal...man and nature to perhaps understand each other. You see massive technology and broad natural beauty both brought to a standstill. Yet they collaborate and move foward together. A mystical trip.

This was a spur of the moment stop on a Sunday afternoon drive. We specifically went to see the dam but wound up catching sight of several eagles while we were there. A nice, economic, no frills stop.

We have been here many many times, it is getting so popular now but we love photographing the eagles fishing and in the towers around the dam. Nice path for walking along the river also. Different times of the year the eagles are everywhere, be sure to visit their website. We always enjoy the fall there. But no matter when,... More

We were here on Jan 21. We pulled into the parking lot and there were a lot of people there with large cameras and binoculars. There was an eagle directly overhead. As we walked to the fence along the water, we could see lots of birds sitting on the transmission towers on the island. We looked through the binoculars and... More

We went on December 23, 2016 and only saw 1 eagle as we walked up, flying overhead with a fish. Then, nothing for the next hour except that same eagle perched on top of a tree and not moving. No "hundreds of eagles" as someone else reported.

Came to photograph the eagles. Great location for seeing hundreds of eagles fishing. Call for dam reports of water release for best eagle activity.

Some reviews talk about "Eagle Day" at the Conowingo Dam. That may be special but we just showed up mid November and did not see a major water release underway yet got to view so many eagles you had to swat them away with your hat :-) Got to talk to a nice guy with a long lens who was... More

We took a trip up to the dam to see the Bald Eagles and we were not disappointed. All type of birds are up there feeding on the fish coming through the dam. People are fishing at the water edge and many photographers taking pictures. A great family outing!

Good place to see eagles, herons, gulls. When you're bored of the water, take a walk along the Greenway, south along the river. What is left of the Susquehanna Tidewater Canal is on the right, the old RR tracks between you and the river.
