This should be your first stop when visiting Howard County Maryland. You'll find lots of brochures and trained folks willing to assist in whatever you might need. They can even plan a trip itinerary. Why venture out without their help?

This is a great place to find out about local attractions. Be sure to ask about the ghost tours, especially around Halloween!

The welcome center is in an old post office and has managed to preserve the old charm from a simpler time. It was well staffed with two pleasant staffers. Enough information available to custom your trip and maximize your vacation time.In the basement is a Howard county police department museum. Very simple but tastefully done.

The Archway of St. Louis is a landmark that invites visitors to ride single file narrow cars upward to the inside top of the Arch, to overlook the City of St Louis. A remarkable structure the defies the imagination. Highly recommended!

Definitely agree with other reviewers that you should stop off at the Welcome Center to get a lay of the land before visiting the old Main Street area and surrounding attractions. The folks working there were very helpful and the downtown area is quite unique.

The Visitor Center is located in an old post office central to town. It is clean and there is access to water and bathrooms. The staff is friendly and offered ideas for things to do for the day. There are great photos and displays about the area and books for sale that described the town and the area in great... More

In December 2011 the Howard County Government took upon itself the unprecedented task of renovating Ellicott City's historic 1940 post office, one of 1400 constructed throughout the U.S. between 1933 and 1943. These post offices featured artwork in the form of murals or sculpture that were commissioned by the U.S. Treasury Department's Section of Painting and Sculpture. So many of... More

If you are coming to Ellicott City for the first time, the Visitor Center is a great place to start. You will get acclimated to Old Ellicott City and the county, in general with displays and lots of brochures. There is a parking lot behind the center which will put you at a good spot for exploring the city.

Not really sure if this is a self-help place or not. There were two people in the area who appeared to be official types, but my friend and I were never acknowledged. There were pamphlets available which we helped ourselves to, but other than a very quaint and old building, I was not too impressed.
