Historic Deerfield is a beautiful preserved single main street in one of the oldest colonial towns in the United States. Attacked by a French and Indian party in 1704, with over a hundred colonials marched off to Quebec, this town nevertheless survived, rebuilt, and today represents what the frontier was like at that time. If you are anywhere near here,... More

Toured Old Deerfield with the class I'm taking at Greenfield Community College. Our instructor arranged the tour during off season, but Bill, our tour guide was very informative about the history of the village. Two hours never went so fast. We were there to look at building design. I live in the next town and it was my first tour... More

If you enjoy history and historic artifacts this is the place to visit. Being from CT its only a two + drive away. We went in August with our granddaughter who is 13 and my mother-in-law who is in her 80's. Other than it being a scorcher of a hot day we really enjoyed it. For one fee you can... More

You pay one fee that let's you tour all of the historic houses and the museum. We walked about 3 miles, parked at the museum and then walked from there. Some of the houses have guided tours which was very interesting. The houses are in very good repair and well maintained.

Strolling thru Historic Deerfield is like taking a step back in time. Much of the architecture remains as it did back in the colonial days. After visiting one of the many houses and hearing the history of the town you can certainly visualize what life must have been like. A hearth cooking demonstration illustrates how hard the women of the... More

Hisotoric Deerfield is really one very quaint street on the same road as Deerfield Academy. Interesting puritan time period homes but also interesting that the historic homes are mixed in among presently occupied homes. The one disappointment was that the visitor center did not tell us that many of the homes were not going to be open on the day... More

This place is dripping in colonial history from the Bloody Brook Massacre to the Raid on Deerfield by the France and Indians in 1704. Before going you really should read up on the history of the town to better appreciate what you are seeing. They also have historical reenactments from time to time. This is a place that you can't... One of my favorite historic sites in the US. Easily accessible, friendly, knowledgeable curators, staff. Site of the February 1704 attack on Deerfield, MA. As a historic fiction writer whose focus is on history of New England from the Native perspective and who has ancestral connections on both sides of my family to the site, Historic Deerfield has long been... This town has an amazing collection of well preserved historic homes from the 1700 and 1800's. However, while they do have some fun word working type of exhibits going on, what really makes this place special is the museum quality curation with which they have approached restoring some of these properties. I drove by the town many many times over... More

The place is wonderful. We chose not to take the guided tour that enables entering the houses. We did look into one of the houses but to my opinion they are all alike and if you have been in the past in one of these houses - you got the feeling. walking through this neighborhood however is fantastic. The houses are...
