The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. Major renovations completed in 2007, including installation of a staircase to the lantern room, allow the interior of the Edgartown Light to be open to visitors. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on North Water Street. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses drop off on Church Street in Edgartown. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the lighthouse from this location.

Last of our Lights of MV tour around the island. Definitely can't recommend this one for disabled/wheelchair. it's a very long walk from the road to the light, lots of sand, and path that is barely single-file. Now, back to the Light review.... It was...More

This is a lovely lighthouse with great views from both the lighthouse and the park. If you don’t wish to travel all the way to Aquinnah to see the sunset, this is a great east coast option.

Take a walk through the park to the lighthouse. Or just enjoy it from a distance. A nice viewing angle is from the Chappy ferry or from Chappaquiddick.

Not the best beach to sun bath, but the location is very convenient as it is 10 minutes away from the city downtown.

A great photo opportunity from here. Nice beach - short walk from town. Sit and chill for a moment watching the birds.

We love the ocean and therefore enjoyed our walk to the lighthouse where we could look out and soak in the sounds, smells, and sights of the water. We've visited in both summer and winter and enjoyed equally. We were the lone visitors on a...More

This lighthouse and the surrounding area are just so beautiful and I could easily just sit and stare at the ocean for hours. During peak times of year I believe they open the lighthouse to the public for a small fee but it was closed...More

Another fun thing do on the Vineyard. Go on a sunny day in the afternoon. Walk along the beach and appreciate the beauty of the island.

Took a tour and saw this lighthouse. Very cool. History was interesting. It is now a non winterized home if I understood the guide. It is not an official lighthouse.

Not a far walk at all. I'm in my 70's and had no problem. Easy walk and lovely homes with great architecture. Enjoy!

Brooke, Do you mean the Harborview Hotel that is located across from the Edgartown LIghthouse? It depends where you take the ferry to—closest would be Oak Bluffs rather than Vineyard Haven. From there you can grab a MV bus... More
