I have been taking visitors/friends/family to this house for 30 years, and I still manage to find something I had not seen. Touring with a guide is the most enlightening way to experience what life was like for the owner and his guests. Henry Sleeper's collections are as eclectic from early colonial times to the incredible majolica, and transfer ware... More

Henry Sleeper was an early interior designer, and he used this house as a sort of catalog of what he could do - each room is decorated in a different theme, either by color or time or some other idea, so you travel through the genius of a creative mind.

This place is awesome! From the hand painted Chinese style wall coverings to the hand blown glass to the fantastic collections in every room, I was enthralled. The owner and guests who stayed here had to have been so very clever to be a part of a circle of friends who delighted in the special collections of colored glass, a ship... Ah, we were too late for a tour but the lovely lady at the desk let us wander around the gorgeous grounds and wow, the view!!! It is a little difficult to find if you are looking for larger signage, think small and tasteful....it is at a slight V in the road, go right even tho the other signs say... More

I have been to this house museum many times, and I never tire of going, because there is so much to see. Of course there are thousands of objects, but there is also the story of the origin of the house with Sleeper, and the survival of the collections with the McCanns. Sleeper was one of the first interior designers,... More

Beauport is an unusual historic home built by a colorful man with colorful friends, like Isabella Stewart Gardner. Built by interior designer Henry Sleeper in1907 to showcase his design ideas and collections of glass and other objects (there are 1,000s), Beauport was the scene for glittering parties in the early 20th century. Remarkably, Sleeper's collections remain largely intact and a... More

We lived in a historic district of Salem for 25 years, visited many, many historic homes. Then we moved to the West coast; and 23 years later we went to Gloucester to see long time friends and decided to take a look at Beauport when we had free time. Amazing experience, so interesting -- and now we know where the... More

We went on a whim but ended up being the highlight of our trip to Gloucester!!! It's a beautifully preserved home and the guide added so much to the tour. We enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it to anyone traveling to Gloucester.

What an amazing, unique house! The house was a showroom for an interior designer, so each room is different from the other. It is so pretty, so unique, and with a great story too. The guide was very knowledgeable and I wish we had more time to explore it, because there are so many detail everywhere. The grounds are amazing... More
