Butternut is a family-friendly ski area that has somewhat limited terrain, but it is a good value for someone bringing their whole family, or who want to learn to ski. The lifts are in good working order, but they are old and slow, so it...More
Good place to go to meet up with friends. It’s cool to have a ski place so close nearby. The park is good, the rails and box’s are good. The place is not too big but a good place to go for a fun trip....More
This is a nice local area - not pretending to be what it is not. The lifts are very very (sic) slow.. but the prices of $25 mid week are clearly a bargain so you deal with the slow lifts. Yesterday was a ski day...More
We live in Connecticut, have a house at Mt. Snow and frequently ski out west. Typically for a local ski day we go to Mohawk Mountain as it is the best in Connecticut. We decided to try Butternut for a change and since it was...More
Great for young kids and beginners, 5 chair lifts and multiple runs make a great 4-day ski vacay for the intermediate skier. Easy nursery runs and an amazing ski school mean beginners can learn at their own pace. Really amazing staff. A new ski fave.
I have been skiing here for decades. It has always been a "friendly" mountain. I do recommend getting out when they open. Being a mid-size mountain, it does tend to get pretty crowded on the more popular trails (coming down from the summit).. I like...More
Great family friendly ski area. Staff are always helpful and fun. Very safety oriented and maintain slopes well. Runs for a small area are excellent and varied for all levels. Ski instruction is very professional, I took a lesson and was able to improve significantly.
We flew into JFK from London specifically for the skiing at Butternut!
The staff were amazing, so patient, friendly and willing to go out of their way to help.
My wife and daughter were total newcomers to skiing and took advantage of the daily lessons...More

Snow tubing is available in a separate Tubing Area from the ski slopes (meaning you can't conveniently ski in or out of the snow tubing area). It features a "magic carpet" conveyor up a single hill which seems pretty small to me (though I've never "tubed" so don't have much to compare). There are several tracks for tubing straight down a gentle hill -- very few lumps or bumps. I believe tube rentals are separate from ski rentals and must be made at the tubing area, not at the main ski rental shop. If you want to park closest to the Tubing Area, stay left as you enter Butternut and drive to the far end of the parking lot. Butternut has a tubing tab on their web site including some video footage that may be helpful.
