The architecture, setting and contents of this home are exceptional. In an area where most if not all homes open to the public represent the Gilded Age I found it refreshing to see a home built and furnished in the first half of the 1900's by an artistic couple according to their contemporary aesthetics. The relatively small entrance foyer was... More

We planned a weekend in Lenox because it had already closed when we were here last year--and we were not disappointed! It is an amazing place. The house itself is beautiful--outside and in--and the rooms retain both the flavor and taste of the original owners, along with their formidable artwork. Alongside their work, hangs the work of their friends--Picasso, Miro,... More

See this house to see an early design of what the mid 20th century modern house would be. This house is a unique creation of an architect that was a cubist artist. this house has original possessions and furniture. it could be easily missed as the house is not famous and neither were the artists that lived here. yet is... This is the house of two artists who were great painters and lead interesting lives. The wife was also an opera singer with considerable talent. The guides are friendly and well informed. The grounds are lovely.

1941. Their story is fascinating and the house and its decor and furnishings and the gorgeous setting and landscape were worth the almost three hours we spent there. If you are interested in art, architecture, and landscape gardens and, by the way, a small window into the life of the very rich and privileged in the 1930's-'40's through old films... More

My wife and I visited FMHS in early August 2016. I hadn't read the brochure carefully and was expecting to see another grand house ("cottage") of the 1880s. Instead, the first treat was a modernist house and studio of two artists, George Morris and Suzy Frelinghuysen. The house was designed in part by Morris (with the aid of an architect)... More

The art collection alone of this couple is worth the visit. A conceptual home descriptive of the artistic sensibilities of an interesting couple.

This sight was exquisite-- Bauhaus home stocked with striking abstract art collection described by knowledgeable, articulate guides and a free art lesson thrown in at the end. Plus we were able to walk through the gardens and the pond. To get to the house, there is a pleasant walk on a path through the woods (1/3 mile) but for those... More

Interesting tour of home that took not much time. More bang for your buck at the Mount-Edith Whartons home and gardens. The tour guide Kerry was well spoken and informative.

We might not have known to stop here were it not for my mother-in-law's tip, but we are glad we did! From the parking lot, it is a 1/3 of a mile up a slight hill to the house. Golf carts are available for those who can't make the walk. We made the walk both ways with our 2 and... More
