We were searching for something cultural to do in Northampton after lunch and stumbled on the Calvin Coolidge library. You can learn a lot about history going to one of these exhibits and this was no exception. We spent a good hours perusing the room in the Northampton Library devoted to Calvin Coolidge and his family. They opened the library... More

I am a huge Calvin Coolidge fan! Since a boy the allure of President Coolidge has been real. In March I discovered the Coolidge Museum at the Forbes Library in Northampton, Mass. It is free and totally informative.www.forbeslibrary.org. Julie Nelson is the Archivist.413-587-1014.

We visited the Coolidge library on 5/16. It is a small library located on the second floor of the town (Forbes) library. The museum gives you an overview of Coolidge's early life, marriage, governorship and how he got to be President. Surprisingly, It doesn't tell you much about what his major accomplishments as President were. The library's archivist (Ms. Nelson)... More

Nice community library with lots of quiet areas to read, study, or write. The basement has a great collection of reads and resources for babies, toddlers, kids & teens. (Don't miss Paco the pacu in the aquarium!) Gallery and museum on the second floor are good complements for students and grownups.

The Calvin Coolidge Library is small compared to more recent Presidential Libraries, but worth the visit. Be sure to check hours, as they are very limited. If you are there on a Saturday, you might also get a tour of the Forbes Library with the Coolidge Library is hosted.

Worth seeing if only to traverse the Forbes Library, what a public library with happy employees who genuinely like the readers who they help.

Coolidge, a former mayor of Northampton, has a Presidential Library and Museum inside the local public library (a wonderful example of a Richardson building). The Coolidge library is full of items from the life nd presidency of Coolidge. An hour there will certainly illuminate, and perhaps change, ones perception about "Silent Cal."

Not every presidential library merits a visit. There are many more interesting things to see and do in the Northampton area. An uninspiring legacy of an uninspiring president.

Calvin Coolidge was a native son and mayor of Northampton before he became US President. He was also allergic to horses yet an ardent athlete and lover of the outdoors. So among the fascinating ephemera on permanent exhibit at the Forbes Library's Presidential Library and Museum is the hairless mechanical 'horse' he rode, to enjoy the benefits of the riding...
