Villa Oplontis Exhibit

The exhibit from a villa near Pompei is outstanding, and will be at Smith until August 2017. After touring the exhibit, we viewed the regular collection and were very impressed.

I am a bit of an art junkie - so first the positives. Lovely building with lots of natural light - really nice design of a place on 4 levels. Some nice pieces of work from French Impressionists to contemporary photographers. One negative is that you have to pay to get in (in fairness lots of discounts and its only... More

I have lived here for over 30 years but came here for the first time recently. This place is small but world class. Excellent sampling of many of the famous artists. I was shocked- this museum is a hidden treasure that must not be missed!!

We stopped at the museum. Parked on a side street. Received the senior discount and visited the museum. They did an excellent job in selecting the art. We recognized many artist from other sites. it took about 2 hours to visit the museum. Many different items to look at. A not to miss place.

Don't think for a moment that because the museum's name has the word "college" in it that this is something less than a world-class collection of art! I've lived near this museum for over 40 years, and I never cease to be amazed at the depth and breadth of its holdings. While it's sad that they began to charge admission... More

Has a wonderful collection of eclectic art. Very peaceful way to spend some time. There is a nice cafe in the lobby area that is quite pleasing. Worth the visit when you are around Smith College which is adjacent to Northampton center, a lively place.

While this place is not exactly kid friendly, it does have a lot to look out for the smaller ones that can't run out of your hands yet. It is a nice place to sit, think, and relax.

Great museum on the Smith College campus. Regular and rotating collections. Special events, too. Much to see!

4 floors of treats, but the top floor is the total stunner. Early to post-impressionist. The Impressionist walls are covered with paintings that represent the great work of more important Impressionists than one would ever expect to see gathered in a single place smaller than the Met. The Childe Hassam that reminds you immediately of the post-war parade Manhattan. Beautiful... More

Can't believe their permanent collection includes so many of the European art masters here. Exhibits and layout are well spaced. One of their exhibits now is "When In Rome: Prints & Photographs, 1550–1900" which examines ways the city of Rome has been pictured. From 16th century engravings to 19th century photographs, the exhibit documents the changing face of Rome and... More
