Route 6A, which is on the northern, or bay side, of Cape Cod, winds its way through some of the oldest villages in America, including Bourne, Sandwich, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, Brewster and Orleans. Many of the homes and churches along this tree-shaded road are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you are interested in seeing what Cape Cod looked like before tourists discovered it, and want to visit some of the best quaint, little shops in New England, Route 6A is the place to be.

Nice alternative to the main highway that takes you through a number of pretty towns. Be aware that there are many speed restrictions so count on taking some time

6A is a great for a scenic cruise. It begins in Sagamore, and will take you all the way to the Orleans rotary, or roundabout. From this point, you can travel on to Provincetown, Orleans, and Chatham.

Sandwich has so many interesting things to see and do. Why pass it by doing 65 on 6. Both Fran and I enjoyed out stay and most likely return. I look forward to it.

Before driving from boston to provincetown we expected something else. A lot of the route is one lane each way which means you get stuck behind people. There are some things to see along the way but mostly evergreen trees and small stores. What we...More

We were there in October which is the off-season so there were very few cars. We spent a few hours and didn't have many stops because many of the shops and restaurants were closed for the season.
