I was driving back to Boston from Hartford and was eager to take in a classic road-side attraction on the way. These 20ft glasses were just a short drive from the main highway and perfectly fulfilled my interest in seeing something in the category of "Oversized Object." I also enjoyed reading the accompanying plaque about the area's involvement in the... More

Beautiful monument, very unusual and very fitting for a town which became very famous for the American Optical Company and the eye-glass industry.

Just a large glasses on street, you cant miss it. The park by it is very nice. The hotel conference center across the street has some great information on the first floor.

The truth is It is a hotel, today. and, there is no exhibit of such history, other than a single page "redevelopment" aspect of this local historical factory in the guest room binder. Or, if there is, the staff did a poor job not letting the guest know such an history exhibit room. I wonder if anyone can read and... More

The history of Southbridge is incomplete without American Optical...generations of families started realtionships and carrers here....nice Pop Art take to honor it! If you get the "frames" righ for the photo, you get the glasses and the tower.

No longer but this unique, eyeglasses shaped monument and bench is located across the street from the location of the former American Optical Co. and pays tribute to the inventions, the industry and the lives if those who were intertwined with the optics industry. This monument is... More

It provided glasses of many sorts and special sunglasses for the military serving in heavy snow areas. The location is now known as the Department of Defense training facility and the Southbridge Hotel & Conference Center. In a park directly across from this facility... More

A simple work of art on lawn of AO basically big eyeglasses to commemorate the old manufacturing base this plant and town offered 100 years ago up till 1980's. This AO location is a piece of history for the town and area. Town common lawn area shows life in the past preserved today in a small NE. town.
