I was so disappointed in this campground. The sites are very small and there is absolutely no privacy. Our fire pit was about five feet from the site behind us. They had a family of ten camping and they were having fun family time together,...More

Spent a long weekend at the Wilderness State Park near Mackinaw City. The park is about a 15 minute drive to the nearby Headlands International Dark Sky Park and about 20 minutes to Mackinaw City. (The drive takes a bit longer than you would think...More

Convenient to all area attractions, this is a huge state park with lots of trails. The Pines campground is lovely and quiet. The showers were broken while we were there, but otherwise it was very clean. The naturalist is so knowledgeable. Don't miss his programs.

Kind of secluded, definitely still a natural beauty beach/shore line in West Michigan. Great place to take the family.

There are two camping areas to this park - the "regular" - typical Michigan State Park, and then the more special 18 full hook up sites just one dune from the lake. We did not camp, due to the difficulty in getting reservations, but did...More

We were lucky to get a walk-in tent site in their new tent camping area. Boy what luck! The view was amazing of the lake. Beautiful sunset. There was a breeze from the lake keeping the bugs away too. Kids could walk out to the...More

A big park but my favorite part is the sandy shoreline. Great for swimming or just sitting and watching the waves.

My visit here was quick as I was headed to Petoskey and had only a short time to check out the park. There is a $9 a day recreation passport fee for out of state visitors and it is not clear that this is needed...More

Absolutely beautiful state park. Can't beat the views, right on Lake Michigan/Straits of Mackinaw. We're here during the off season, so we have the beach pretty much to ourselves. One can walk for miles! If you're looking for solitude, one can't beat this location. The...More

Absolutely beautiful State Park gorgeous view nice campsites. Unfortunately the bathrooms have not then opened up by April 15th. They do not allow dogs on the beach period only bummer I can think of

We didn't see any. We did a 45 min hike on the trails with no sign of ticks. The bugs on the other hand on the trails were bad. The bugs weren't bad at the site though.

Not sure about the swimming. We didn't go in the water. MOST of the shoreline in that area is pretty rocky. It was not far from the campsites we saw though. Water is likely pretty cold even in August.
